Junior Gardener Program Grants
Deadlines: July 16 and November 1
Awarded: October and December
By supporting school gardens, the San Clemente Garden Club (SCGC) creates opportunities for students to develop healthy lifestyles, to have a deeper understanding of natural systems, and to become better stewards of the Earth.
The SCGC awards grants to schools that are developing or maintaining school garden projects involving students in grades K-12. Priority will be given to those programs, which emphasize one or more of the following elements:
- healthy life skills through growing and harvesting one’s own food;
- environmental education through water conservation, habitat development, and CA native plants;
- inspiring future scientists through investigations in the natural world;
- involving students in the personal stewardship of their school gardens through after-school garden maintenance
Public and private K-12 schools located within the City of San Clemente are encouraged to apply. Selected new or existing school garden programs are granted up to $500, limit one grant per school year. The SCGC grant is not intended for hardscape, structural or permanent capital school garden improvements. Sustainable youth gardening programs are welcome to re-apply for operating support every year.
