Launa Gould and Kieu Doan were also there on January 12th and gave the Manzanita bush a good trimming to show off its beautiful burgundy trunk. They had a great time but really wish more people were there to help keep our garden in tip-top shape.

Sherry Christensen, newest garden club member—Izi Hinds and Sally Mills joined Kieu Doan (not pictured) at Park Semper Fi to work in the garden. They trimmed back several Lantana bushes, pulled out lots of weeds and deadheaded spent blooms. Jointly, they filled up three large black trash bags full of green waste. It was a very hot day, but they managed to get a significant amount of work done.

Jim Proett is pictured with the two-foot-tall palm tree he removed from the garden's slope. Sometimes—perfectly healthy plants are just growing in the wrong area and need to be moved. This tree will be finding a new, more appropriate home.

May 18, 2022
What a great "May Gray" day for many enthusiastic members who came out and helped spruce up the garden beds at Park Semper Fi in preparation for the Memorial Day ceremony. Participating on May 18th were Wayne Eggleston, Izi Hinds, Susan Reveal, Sally Mills, Jim Proett, Ana Gonzales, Kim Neal and Kieu Doan. These dedicated garden club members came and trimmed back the Cleveland Sage and White Sage. They planted several Salvia greggii, and Bulbine frutescen plants. The garden beds are filled with beautiful blooms from the colorful orange-red Lantana, California fuschia, and Imperial Blue ‘Plumbago auriculata’. But, these gardeners weren’t the only ones helping with the clean-up, Sandy Cushman deadheaded many Marguerite flowers after her beach walk on Monday, May 9th.
The park is now ready for the hundreds of attendees who will be arriving to attend the Memorial Day ceremony. The event is anticipated to draw a larger-than-normal crowd. A plaque will be dedicated and placed on the Memorial Wall in Park Semper Fi in memory of the 13 Marines killed in the Kabul, Afghanistan attack on August 26, 2021.
